Mission

At Outlook Counseling, our mission is to provide a safe space from which you can view aspects of your life and make needed changes in order to create a stronger sense of peace and a more developed understanding of you. This may mean processing the past, understanding the present, or making plans for the future. It might be as simple as getting a no-charge assessment and letter for gender-affirming surgery or as complicated as working through complex trauma and neglect that has left you unable to be kind to yourself and disconnected from the world.

Clients

My clients generally, but not always, fall in one or more of a few categories: have experienced trauma, are neurodivergent, and/or are queer/LGBTQIA+. While I am not a fan of labeling people who have suffered as being disordered, I see people with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, dissociative identity (DID), and other diagnoses.

Approach

As a narrative therapist, much of our time will involve exploring your story and helping you find the way you want to write it, perhaps without any trace of those negative outside voices. I also come with tools and skills to help provide control over big emotions and to find safety within yourself. EMDR is one of the tools that I can use, which gives your brain the ability to process uncomfortable memories and negative beliefs about yourself quickly and creatively. Regardless of the way we proceed, I will work diligently to figure out what works best for you, and I will treat you with warmth and respect, believing that you are always doing your best in whatever the moment brings.

One of the most beautiful aspects of humankind is our diversity, and I affirm the things that make you different. Whether neurodivergent or neuroboring, joyfully fat or comfortably thin, melanin enriched or glow-in-the-dark white, walking the straight and narrow or following a path that is as wide as your legs can spread, and anything in between and outside of these and other binaries, I see and celebrate the very you-ness of you.
